Denise Palumbo and Erika Gallagher both with over ten years individual experience in the Interior Design industry formed the company in 2004. After working for others and operating their individual businesses, they saw an opportunity to grow personally and professionally by joining together in their own venture.
Before making the leap, Denise and Erika met with Elli Benno, a counselor at SCORE. The guidance and support they received and continue to receive from SCORE has proven invaluable. Mr. Benno helped them to avoid many of the pitfalls in starting a small business by reviewing many of the “what ifs” with them; from deciding on the form of business entity to providing his expertise in reviewing potential leases. Mr. Benno also encouraged them to speak with another professional in the interior design field to learn from his experience as well. That connection has proven to be invaluable as the gentleman was ready to retire and has steered many customers their way as well as opening the door to some suppliers. Mr. Benno also helped them draft and design a sound business plan.
Plum & Crimson started operation in June 2004 and achieved profitability in the first quarter of operations. Sales for the year to date are in the high six figure range and operations remain profitable. Denise and Erika are now relocating to a larger space in Clifton Park and have secured contracts with three local builders with the prospects of obtaining contracts with two others. Both Denise and Erika are quick to acknowledge that without the help of SCORE and in particular, Elli Benno, they would not have achieved such positive results so quickly. |
